NFL Power Rankings Week Four: Packers And Lions Lead The Way
The Detroit Lions have been bad for so long that their fans are skeptical, even with their team sitting as one of the only two undefeated teams in the NFL. After several teams were knocked from the ranks of the undefeated last week, Detroit joins Green Bay as the only squads without a blemish on their record. That success has led to NFL insiders muttering the next sentence, one which has not been heard ever in league circles. The Lions are one of the top five teams in the NFL. That is right, the Lions who once went an entire season without winning a game, is one of the top teams in the league. This week, the Lions are better than top five in our Power Rankings. Detroit comes in this week at number two, behind only the defending Super Bowl champion Packers. This past Sunday Detroit was again impressive, coming from behind to beat the Cowboys in Dallas. The Packers rolled the Broncos to stay in the top spot in the rankings. The number three team is also new to being placed highly in weekly NFL rankings. The Houston Texans defeated the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers, running their record to 3-1 in the process. The Texans appeared to have caught a break with Peyton Manning’s injury, and Houston has taken full advantage of their good fortune early on this season.New Orleans and Baltimore round out the the top five. The Saints won easily over Jacksonville, and the Ravens used a smothering defense to beat the Jets. Baltimore’s defense has been dominant in two wins over the Jets and Steelers this year. The saints are flying under the radar, mostly due to the emergence of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are also 3-1, and tied for the NFC South lead with the Saints.New England got back on track by going on the road and taking care of the Raiders. That win moved the Patriots back up to number six this week. New England is followed by San Diego, the Bucs, Washington, and the Giants. The Bills fell out of the top ten after a brief appearance last week. Buffalo lost to Cincinnati on Sunday.
