Kentucky Derby Betting Odds: Bodemeister The Favorite
It is for this day, in particular, that Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has been lobbying to get slot machines at state race tracks. The Kentucky Derby is the most celebrated horse race of the year, and thousands of fans fill the stands hoping to see a glimpse of greatness.Beshear believes that slots would be beneficial to helping the struggling racing industry, and with gamblers packing the grandstand today, Beshear will be reminded of how much revenue could be generated if Churchill Downs offered slot machines like other pari-mutuel facilities are allowed to do around the US.That debate will have to wait for another day. As the horses and their trainers prepare to take center stage for a couple of minutes in American sports later this evening, gamblers are flocking to the ticket window to place their bets on the race. It is Bodemeister that is the betting favorite at 4/1.Bodemeister easily won the Arkansas Derby, giving racing fans a glimpse of what he is capable of. Bodemeister’s stiffest challenge is expected to come from the second choice of odds makers, Union Rags. Bodemeister will break from the sixth post, while Union Rags will run from post four. The middle post does not intimate Union Rags’ trainer Michael Matz.”The horses around him maybe don’t have that much speed, so that pushes us closer to where Bodemeister will be,” said Matz. “It looks like it came up OK. We’ll have to be running from the start.”Other horses expected to make an impact in the derby include Gemotologist at 6/1, Dullahan at 8/1, and Hansen at 10/1. The long shots in the field are Liason, Rousing Sermon, and Optimizer, all at 50/1. There will be twenty horses going to the gate in the Derby, allowing for a first place prize of $1,459,600. The runner-up will win $400,000, and third place will gain a $200,000 prize. The Kentucky Derby starts a seven week stretch where horse racing has the opportunity to make their mark on American sports. After the Derby, the Preakness will be run two weeks from today, and then three weeks after that, the top horses will gather ion New York for the Belmont Stakes. No horse has won the Triple Crown in over 35 years. May 5, 2012Posted By Vincent Tapoglia IIIStaff Editor, CasinoGamblingWeb.comSubmit News!
