The long shots in the field are Liason, Rousing Sermon, and Optimizer, all at 50/1. There will be twenty horses going to the gate in the Derby, allowing for a first place prize of $1,459,600. The runner-up will win $400,000, and third place will gain a $200,000 prize.The Kentucky Derby starts a seven week stretch where horse racing has the opportunity to make their mark on American sports. After the Derby, the Preakness will be run two weeks from today, and then three weeks after that, the top horses will gather ion New York for the Belmont Stakes.
